I am Still Around

This may sound like rambling, but a lot has happened since my last post. We had a great growth group Christmas party. The white elephant exchange was a hoot.

Basketball has been up and down this year. The team I am coaching has already won more games this year than last. Its been exciting, frustrating, but overall fun. These guys are getting better each time out. I also help as an assistant at the varsity level. Golden Bears are 5-0 and ranked 12th in 1A.

My dad passed away just before Christmas. It different this being first one without any parents. Both mom and dad enjoyed Christmas. So, kind of a bummer. Thanks to FFC, growth group, family and friends for kind words and help during this time.

Enjoyed having Shane home for holidays. With dad passing away it wasnt the welcome home he really wanted.

Eric did really well playing amazing grace at dad's funeral. Grandpa's death was hard on Eric as they were really close.

Shane's leaving for Barclay on Saturday. He done really well grade wise, for being out of high school for 4 years. He starts playing basketball on 1/9/09.

Its good to know I have a Savior that will allow me to meet up with mom and dad in heaven someday

Christmas\ Holiday Favorite Shows or Movies

Lets have some fun. List top three Christmas Shows:

Mine are:

1. Frosty the Snowman-i cry when frosty melts
2. Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer
3. Charlie Brown Christmas

Update

Busy, Busy, Busy, to steal a line from my holiday favorite "Frosty the Snowman" Update from last post. Eric still hasnt gotten a dear(dad note: I think he enjoys seeing them in wild, not really wants to pull trigger.) Shane was invited to spend Thanksgiving with roomate. He did have to miss a game due to departure time from campus with roomate. I hope that doesnt cause issue with coach and team.

Basketball season has started and we are currently 1-2. The team is getting better and still having fun and thats what matters.

I enjoyed the Francis Chan video at church on Sunday. Worship team rocks as usual.

Life is good right now. I hope it stays that way.

Deer Season

Eric has been deer hunting the last few weeks. Today he brought home neat video of a big doe. He was filming and his buddy missed the shot. I wished I could download video but I aint that smart.

Barclay basketball update. Bears lost 117-65. Shane had 10pts and 5 rebs. in about 10 minutes of action. Its cool. In high school the mascot was the Bears. In high school his uniform #20, at Barclay #20.

Weekend Update

Passed out candy on Friday. First time in 18years we have done this. The weather was perfect and seen a lot of people I know from FFC, friends and neighbors. Caught some of my basketball team toliet papering house. Thats ok it was fun watching their faces. I dont mind the tp just dont do any of nasty stuff.

Listened to Shane play his first college game Sat afternoon. He didnt play bad, but he didnt play great. He called us afterwards down in dumps disappointed in performance. He just need to hear our voices telling him it would be ok.

Sunday was fun working in video booth at FFC. Brian and other folks in A/V are a blast to be around. Growth Group we had close to 30 attend. It was really good to see everyone.

Basketball Season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although games dont start for a couple of weeks, tryouts are complete. We did have to cut a couple of kids. Thats the hardest part of job. Practice starts tonight with drills, defense and offenses to teach. This begins the fun part. This years team will working hard to improve after only winning two games. I have a winning streak to keep going, never had a losing season. As long as we have fun and boys learn and be good sports, thats all that matters.

Speaking of basketball season, good news just got I call from Shane and he can play first semester. First game is Sat. at Rogers State. He is excited and us for him. A sad note this is the first game I've ever missed in Shane's entire life.

Bias

Last evening I was watching Sunday night football and the American League Baseball Championship. Like most men I was going back and forth from channel to channel until the remote stuck on Channel 2 (as I was attempting to go from ch13 to ch 23). Well on our cable system that puts you on WIPB. Which is a public broadcast station. Last night they were showing the documentary of the courthouse calendar girls.

I know this is controversial. I was neutral during the whole thing. But let me tell you wow, the so-called documentary was far from neutral. The director kept saying he couldnt get those for tearing courthouse down to speak. Its no wonder. The few that did were made out to be the spawn of satan. Pastor Kris was mentioned that he declined an interview, its a good thing. He would have been declared as satan himself by the people making this oneside film. FFC was ripped to shreds. I havent see this much bias since MSNBC "Obama's our Man" network, or Fox "GOP" News channel.

Maybe not the best post I have come up with but it was so blatant.

Still Here

I havent posted in awhile. There is a good reason. I have started my new job. Last week was training and this week setting up new office. I am working for Indiana State Department of Health as an emergency planner. Yes you are in my district so you are safe from a biological terrorist attack. This should be a new challenge. I think I will like it. Salary is better, but benefits are not as advertised. Anyway looking forward to new adventure.

Update

There has been some good news since my last post. It appears there may be some funds available to just cover cost of school. He has to come up with some $ for basics, which is what we all face. He is still a little down. Those who know Shane and want to give him a "pick me up" call let me know rbrown82@hotmail.com and I will give you his phone number.

Struggle with Faith

Well after my last post, I received a call from Shane. He has informed me that instead of having money from financial aid to help him get through the rest of the semester he owes $1000.00. He has been working a couple hours a day on campus, but that will stop Oct 6 when basketball starts. On that topic, he took ACT again to be able to play first semester, he didnt do well and he now has to wait until 2nd semester to start playing. Thats ok it will help him get ahead of studies.

Shane will probably come home because he cant earn enough to pay for school and I dont earn enough to pay my bills let alone pay for college. He has changed so my much and was trying to do what God has led him to do and now this. I am really struggling with my faith right now so please pray for me.

Prayer

The power of prayer is an awesome weapon.(as my growth group can tell you) We need to use it. Heavy on my heart is morning is FFC and my growth group members. Its not because of economy. It will work itself out. My main concern this morning is FFC and my group members. One of the missions of FFC is to minister to community outside our walls. We as a church do a good job with that. Pastor Jeff does a great job as do all of our Pastors(we are blessed). God has filled the buildings of FFC with the Holy Spirit and his protecting armour. I am sure God is with us always, but it seems that outside our walls some of our FFC members are under attack.

Satan knows what is at stake and is trying his best to drive a wedge between us and God. I know members of our church and growth group seem to be facing some issues. During the confessions series, confessions were made, people were saved and lives changed. Satan knows this and is trying to convict people and make people ashamed and guilty for past sins. They just need to know God has forgiven them and wiped the slate clean and Satan is just trying to throw them off track.

Remember we have those with illness and injury. This not only causes physical hurt, but spiritual hurt. If this cause loss of work, also financial hurt.

Relationships are an issue. Satan knows the best way to hurt you is to cause a relationship problem with those you love. DONT LET him DO THAT TO YOU!!!

Finances. God mentions this in the Bible more than any topic. The economy is bad and Satan knows that money will effect peoples relationship with God. There are folks that attend FFC that dont live paycheck to paycheck, but from day to day.

Now is the time for prayer!!!!!!!!!!!!
I maybe wrong but I dont think I am.

Politics

I dont do this often but if your main concern in this years election is the economy. Remember this and pass it along. Obama main economics advisers are the past CEO's of Freddie Mack and Sally Mae. Two of the main reasons for mortgage collapse.

What a Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started with almost not going to church. We decided to go at last minute. I am glad we did. Pastor Jeff and Mindy's testimony was awesome. Pastor Kris nailed another one.

Then came growth group...Confessions were made and lives were changed....then

What an awesome worship and healing service. Music and worship were great. Healing both physical and spritutal took place. What an awesome day. (except Colts lost...LOL)

New Job

During the series "Wait" God told me to wait for another job offer. At that time I would be working 80-plus hrs. a week. I waited and now I have a new job offer. I am not sure this is the job I was to wait for, but it will help financial situation some.

Good News for a Change

Spoke with Shane last evening. As you know he is at Barclay. He said he is doing well with classes. Basketball tryouts started last night and he was excited about that. He has made a few friends and said things are going well. The cell phone is working again. (He had battery in backwards). I think he is going to be just fine. I am proud of him and excited for him.

I promised her the world and the only thing I have given her is my love. She has stuck with me thru many tough times. I love her with all my heart.

Tears!!!!!!!!

Tears of joy. For letting your son embark on a journey that God has led him to. Tears of pain. What I am witnessing now in our hotel room in El Dodrado KS. Mom (tammy) ( and Dad) is having a little harder time with Shanes journey than we thought. Mom says it so far from home. I wish I could post photos. Barclay College is located in a town smaller than Farmland.

Shane got thru the red tape and moved into a house. A game of basketball was already planned to begin after supper. We said our good byes about 4:30PM and tears are still flowing at 9PM. A quick prayer would be great.

Going to Missouri

Leaving for Branson, Mo. on Thursday to pick up Shane. He has completed his discipleship focus. I dont think he will be home long. He was accepted at Barclay College in Kanas. This is same college that Pastor Kris, Pastor James, Pastor Tonya, Tammy Sorensen, Ronn and Yvette Oren attended. There maybe more from FFC that attended Barclay. He may also get to play basketball. He will befirst to play sports in college in our family. Everyone I have spoke to about Shane's chance to attend Barclay are very excited. They say it will be life changing. A big thanks to Pastor James.

A Little Help

I dont have access to the Heavy B. blog. Those who do could you email the words of eric's prayer that was on his blog. Thanks. rbrown82@hotmail.com

Its Hard Sometimes

I have been in the fire service for about 20years. After yesterday you wonder sometimes how we get through somethings we see and have to deal with. Yesterday our dept. responded to a call where a two year old boy was ran over by riding lawnmower. He was severely injured and flown to Childrens Hospital in Cincinnati. I wasnt one of the persons who treated the little guy, but three of the guys who did have a tough time dealing with it. Just pray for the family, and the firemen, some who attend FFC.

Work Place Recognition

As most of you know I have struggled with jobs over the last 7 months. The job I have is Director of Emergency Management. I love the job but cannot afford it. If that makes sense. The job is political and is often the target of criticism. So, when something good happens it kind of makes it worthwhile. I am by nature a humble person but I must share being recognized in Congress by Rep. Mike Pence. I received a nice letter and copy of the Congressional Record in which I was mentioned for my work in the recent severe weather and flooding. After some of the trials in my life lately, I am walking on the clouds today. I know its short lived but it keeps ya goin.

Right On

My hand is up. Pastor Ryan yesterday asked about people who worry about things of this world. I cant miss a church because God has been hammering me, and making or molding me more into his image. I will never be perfect, but God has changed me. From the series "Wait" to yesterdays message, it is amazing how each service God has found something in my life to work on.

Anyway I worry, fret and ring my hands over important and not so important things of this world. I had two stressful, controversial, and gut wrenching situation to deal with on Monday. I followed Ryan's message and rejoiced in my God and keep repeating or singing whatever song was on JOY FM. Needless to say God revealed Himself with what felt like the most loving hug. I had peace about the situation. I have a mentor who also helped me gain the peace with God's word(Thank you Doug). I want to thank Pastor Jeff who prayed with me also. Things aren't perfect with the situations, but I found the peace to deal with them. I think the song was "Today is the Day"

The Ups and Downs

As many of you know, I coach jr. high basketball at Monroe Central. Myself and the other jr. high coach was able to take the jr. high group to a camp in Ft. Wayne. We left Wednesday and returned Saturday morning. I had the joy of watching a group of boys not win one game. Now let me explain that statement. This group of guys are the not the starting group that plays during the school year. This group are the bench player that dont play much during the year. Anyway they went from losing games by 20-30 pts to losing to the best teams at the camp to losing 4-6 pt s to the same teams on the last day of camp. I really enjoy working with kids that improve not only basketball skills but life skills. That was the upside of week.

Then, while having breakfast with the boys on Saturday morning, as we are about to return home came the news. Sitting in the restaurant text messages started coming in about a horrible accident that happened north of Farmland. The accident involved two young men that I have coached a few years ago. Things looked very bleak for these guys. A prayer vigil was held at FFC on Saturday night. I heard that as the prayers were being lifted up to God the boys conditions started to improve. Continue to pray for these fellows and families. The downs and ups. God is great.

I Hope its a Happy Birthday

Today is Shanes birthday. We are unable to wish him a happy birthday. His cell phone is out of service..as is our home phone. Its kind of tough on Tammy and me not to be able to wish him a happy birthday. So I hope God will lay it on his heart that we are thinking of him.

All Things Considered not A Bad Day

Stayed home from work to take mother-in-law to eye dr. She had he son take her instead ........so I enjoyed day off. Helped Tammy watch Austin a 7month old she has been watching a couple a days a week (every little bit helps). Then at noon I get a text message from Aaron Black asking me to sub for him. The b-ball coaches have a team in the Monday evening golf league at Hickory. I shot a 60(yes for 9 holes..........lol). Went home and enjoyed a camp fire in backyard with Tammy and Eric. Eric caddied for me during golf and actually had some good tips.

I want to thank all those FFC'ers that have continued to pray for me and our family during our trying times.

Whiner/Complainer?????????

What a great service at FFC yesterday. Worship was great and Ryan was right on with his message about complaining to each other and not to God, which leads to prayer and a closer walk with God. He asked at the end of service if you had a complainers heart to come to alter to leave it there. I felt I needed to leave it. So I did. Once again my great growth group was there to pray with me. So I will try not to complain anymore on my blog or in life but take it to God in prayer. I have grown so much in my short few years at FFC in Christ than I have my entire life. I love this church. Once again(not complaining, just stating fact) if you dont have a group, you should find one. Ask me about mine.

Romans 3:22

We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in the same way, no matter who we are or what we have done.

Good News Bad News

The Good News-Christ is alive and it seems I will be staying put for awhile. Bad News- I didnt get job in St. Marys Ohio. My FFC ers know that I promised God I would wait for the right job situation. I would let Him lead the way. I will continue to be obediant to His will. I hope its soon because creditors are getting a little impatient. They dont understand God's timing. LOL Anyway I am happy I get to stay in Farmland and attend FFC, but if it is God's will to leave then that's what would happen. Its not about me but His glory.

Updates

I have been busier than a "one legged man at a butt kicking contest." The storms have caused flood damage in the southern part of county and wind damage throughout the county have kept me hopping. FEMA will be in the county soon and trying to prepare for the 58th annual Fly-IN Breakfast on Sat. The local EMA sponors the event (which puts me in charge). All this is a little exhausting.

Updates on Shane: He is hanging in there. For some reason the amusement park he works at is only letting him work a couple of days a week, so funds are running low. We are trying to help, but we have limited resources. I hope they let him pick up more hrs.

Update on job: Still waiting for God to provide. I may have some opportunities on the horizon, nothing concrete yet, but I will let God lead the way.

Mixed Feelings

Great holiday weekend. Cookouts and fishing. We were able to enjoy a new fishing hole thanks to fellow FFC'er Kim and Mimi. Good time and lots of fish were caught. Eric really caught some nice bass and good one liners from Kim.

Shane left this morning for Branson, Missouri. He is going to be involved in a discipleship focus. Pastor James drove him down there is morning. I thank God we have Pastors who walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Thank you James for helping Shane. I think this will be good for Shane. Yes we will miss him, but its time he finds out what God has in store for him

What did He save you for?

That is the question I cannot get out of my mind. This question came from Shaun Groves. Shaun was a fantastic speaker and singer last Sunday at FFC Compassion Sunday. 71 people stepped up and are sponsoring a child. I unfortunately am not one of those. I feel real uneasy about that. I think once I can honestly answer Shaun's question I will be able to sponsor more than 1 child. I am at a point in my walk with Christ that I really need to find the answer to the question What did He save me for? I have been a Christian since childhood. Then did the teenage-college backslide. I came back to Christ and have been active in the church. I am currently a leader of a great growth group. I have been a Sunday School Supt at another church and VBS teacher/guide here at FFC and other churches.

I am currently in prayer daily for God to provide the answer. I feel kind of lost right now. I have a passion for coaching, I enjoy working with children, but I have not found the calling of God's heart for my life. I believe this is affecting all aspects of my life. I truely believe that once I find out What did he save me for? and follow God's direction it will change my life completely and bless me and others. So in your prayer time could you keep me in mind. I know this may sound selfish but I really believe in the power of prayer.

Healing

The conclusion of the series "Wait" at FFC was great. The worship was outstanding, Pastor Kris was on message (as usual), atmosphere (Holy Spirit) was awesome. The alters were full, so God was moving in His house.

Last evening at growth group we focused on healing. We have a man of great faith in our group who is ill. He has been ill for sometime, and no matter what the doctors do, he feels no better. We stepped out in faith and focused prayer on him. I know the power of prayer works in healing, because it has happened instantly in our group before. He has the faith to accept healing and our group has the faith that our prayers will help bring the healing spirit for God to heal him. There is a fine line sometimes between presuming upon God and faith that God will provide the needed healing.

I am still patiently waiting on God as far as job situation goes. I wait on the right opportunity and the massive debt that keeps piling up. I am at peace with what God spoke and have faith in Him. I hope the creditors are as forgiving. LOL

Weatherman Missed Again-Thank God!!!!!

Glad the weather folks missed the forecast of historical severe weather outbreak. I hate it when the weather causes damages and causes injuries or fatalities. I was prepared but glad I didnt have to work overtime cause of a storm. I was able to coach the 7th and 8th grade boys at Boys Club last night. I enjoy coaching basketball, even if it is baseball and golf season. This weekend is going to feel like basketball season.

Overhyped Weather?

The jury is still out on severe weather this afternoon and evening. I have a feeling it has been overhyped a little. Just like some of the winter snow storms. Its a difficult job forecasting the weather that God has in store. I hope that the severe weather doesnt happen and we have a peaceful evening.

Calm Before the Storm

I will be spending today charging radios, filling up county car with gas, notifing emergency services to be prepared for what maybe a major outbreak of severe weather (tornadic storms). Weather guys sometimes hype storms but I am being told this could rivial the 1974 outbreak. Tommorrow I will be in full storm chasing mode. I hope it is hype because I will be very busy should storm damage occur. The one aspect I dont like is some forecasters are saying it possible to have tornadoes on ground after dark. Thats scary.

Too close to Home

Two firefighters died today. Capt. Robin Broxterman and Rookie Brian Schira of the Colerain Twp Fire Dept (near Cincinnati)died when the floor collapsed and trapped them in the basement of a house. Cpt. Broxterman was recently engaged and leaves behind two children. Firefighter Schira worked three jobs. The reason this was too close to home are several reasons. Number one is we had a fireman fall thru a floor into basement here in Farmland. It happened in the house just south of FFC. The fireman was Joe Frazier who attends FFC. We were lucky that day to have Joe survive and live to fight more fires. It was one of the most frightened I have been at a fire. Second By the way I am a vol. fireman also. The third is why do emergency service workers need to work so many jobs. They should be able to work one job and go home and not rush to the next one.(I vented sorry). I hope and pray these two brave people have touched the face of God and are sitting around His throne. We never know when the call comes in if we get to come home. We dont do it for the glory but for the love of our community, neighbors and families. Pray for the families of these two fallen heroes tonight.

Wait

The series at FFC is called Wait. You can go to www.farmlandfriends.org or www.simplywait.com to see what the excitement is about. Pastor Kris message in week two was a mirror image of my life last week. It you were at the service you heard my testimony. To make a long story short, it does come down to your faith and confidence in God. I have always wanted to do it my way. I would jump ahead of God's plan for me and try to handle things my way. Needless to say I have always messed it up. The past week I decided to listen to and obey God. He told me to "wait" I have put my faith and confidence in Him. He will make the next decision on my future. Pastor Kris is right: if you dont put your confidence in God you will lose your faith. I will now wait on God to provide and move me forward.

I have been a Christian for many years. I have grown up in church and known God for I long time. Yet in all those years I have not grown as a Christian. That changed this weekend and I know have a real relationship with God. I am more eager to learn, pray and grow in Christ.

Growth Groups

EVERYONE SHOULD BELONG TO ONE!!!! Yes I am shouting. If you attend to Farmland Friends Church you really need to join. Wow. Our group met last evening and I am telling you the Holy Spirit flooded the room. We did life. We laugh, some say too much, We cry, some say too much, I say just right. We care and take care of each other. This may sound like a commerical but if that is what it takes to get you in a group then so be it. Some say it only social, it is but we also learn the word of God. We have different levels are Bible knowledge in our group and its exciting to learn from all. I use to think I could be a Christ follower without church, other people, but this is contrary to God's word. If not my group, find one you are comfortable with and join.

Saturday Night Services at FFC

Pastor Kris announced in his blog that the Sat. night service will be ending soon. I understand the reasons behind it, but sad to see it go. My son Eric has played in the worship band ever since the Sat. night services started. I have been part of the service myself. I was head usher for awhile. I also helped some with the power point program that projected song lyrics and semons onto the screens. Yes, I was part of PK favorite service of giving away the Wii. I got the banana(me bitter............no..........LOL). It was a fun service and I was very glad PK gave the Wii to the young boy. I want to thank PK, Pastor Jeff, Pastor Marggy for their service. A big prop to Bruce who led worship....great job Bruce. I want to thank Cari Lott and Dennis Patty for helping me learn just enough of visual program to make me danagerous........LOL.

Looking

I have sent out over 50 resumes online over the last couple of days. I work for the county. I could say more but I wont. Needless to say... government work doesnt pay very well. I need to find one job that will pay the bills or find a part-time job on a midnight shift to help out. I have always worked two jobs, so this will be nothing new, but the older I get the harder it is to do. I continue to look and wait for God to provide.

Rough Weekend

More snow. Made for interesting drive to Frankfort.

MC Bears lose heartbreaker to Rockville 64-63 in ot. The Bears played hard and with class and makes me proud to be part of the program.

Pastor Kris nailed me yesterday. See, I am one of those who believe in miracles (because I have witnessed one in our small group), but it always happens to others. PK sermon will help me believe that it will, does, can, etc happen to me. I am expecting a big miracle this week. If it doesnt happen I will still continue to worship and praise our great God!

Groundhog stew

That would be the menu if the weather doesnt break soon. If I here "lines down" on more time I going to lose it. NOW!! the forecast calls for near blizzard conditions Friday night and Sat. It could be a long trip to Frankfort on Saturday for the Regionals. I need a sunny and 72 forecast so I can fish and regain any mental health I have left. Thanks for letting me vent.

Good Week

Busy but fun week. Most of week consisted of traveling to Blue River Valley High School for the high school basketball sectional. The week ended well with a sectional championship. It is the first for new head coach Jeremy Duncan(as head coach) and some of the other assts. coaches. Coach Moore and myself have been part of 4 titles since 2000. The season continues next week as we travel to the land of the frankfurters. We play the regional at Frankfort High School. Its a long drive so we might as well make a day of it and win it all.

Church and growth group was great. Anytime you can worship God and fellowship with fellow believers it makes for awesome day.

Still looking the a job that pays enough to pay the bills. Still sending out resumes and interviewing with no luck yet.

Been awhile

I have not posted in a long time. Do not know why. I am trying to get used to new haircut I received compliments of the 8th grade boys basketball team. I coach them. They asked if they could cut my hair if we won the county championship. We did and now I am almost bald. I now understand why bald people wear hats in winter. It was a great season. The boys went 15-2 winning the last 13 in a row. We defeated arch rivial Winchester in the championship game 41-37 in a game in which the lead changed hands several times.
